If Your Express Entry Application is Approved
Approved Express Entry Candidates
Once your Express Entry application is approved, you’ll be notified through your online account with a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and, if required, a permanent resident visa based on your country of origin.
The COPR will include your personal details along with a photograph. It’s crucial to carefully review this information to ensure it matches your travel documents. If any errors are found, contact the authorities immediately through your account. Keep in mind that the COPR cannot be extended, so you must use it before its expiration date.
For Candidates Already Residing in Canada
If you’re already living in Canada, the authorities will contact you to outline the next steps. Typically, you’ll be scheduled for an interview with an immigration officer who will verify your documents and ask some basic questions to validate your application.
For Candidates Living Outside of Canada
If you’re living outside of Canada, you can take advantage of free pre-arrival services and resources to help you prepare for life in Canada. Before entering the country, you’ll need to use the ArriveCAN app. Make sure you bring a valid passport, your COPR, your visa (if required), and proof of funds to support yourself and your family.
Arrival and CBSA Processing
Upon arrival in Canada, you’ll meet with an officer from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), who will verify your documents to ensure everything is in order. Only individuals who meet all the eligibility criteria and provide accurate information will be allowed entry.
Once cleared by CBSA, you will officially be a Canadian permanent resident. The officer will also ask for a Canadian mailing address where your permanent resident card will be sent. If you change your address within the first 180 days of arrival, you must update it using the appropriate form.
Disclosure of Funds
Be aware that if you are carrying more than CAD $10,000 upon arrival, you must declare it to the CBSA officer. Failure to do so could result in a fine or seizure of your funds.
